Scienza e tecnologia a Catania: il ruolo delle Donne Saturday 11 February at 10, in the Città della Scienza auditorium, the event organized as part of the eighth "International Day of Women and Girls in Science" and the exhibition "Forze della Natura" dedicated to female scientists who 'have left a sign'
Rediscover and raise awareness of the vital role women and girls play in science and technology. These are the fundamental objectives of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, established in December 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly, which in Catania will be celebrated on Saturday 11 February in the auditorium of the City of Science, starting at 10, with the event "Science and Technology in Catania: the role of women". The initiative - promoted on the occasion of the eighth edition of the UN International Day - is organized by Città della Scienza of the University of Catania, Inaf-Astrophysical Observatory of Catania, Sicilian Center for Nuclear Physics and Structure of Matter, Department of Physics and "Majorana" Astronomy of the Catania University and Infn - Section of Catania. On the programme, the presentations of the Catania researchers Valentina Cesare (Inaf), Alessia Tricomi (Unict, Csfnsm and Infn), Elena Geraci (Unict), Mariachiara Falco (Inaf), Emanuela Celano (Csfnsm) and Mariangela Bondì (Infn) and a table roundabout on the problems and perspectives of women in research with the interventions of Germana Barone (president of CUG Unict), Maria Grazia Grimaldi (director of the department of Physics and Astronomy), Isabella Pagano (Director of the Astrophysical Observatory of Catania - Inaf), Alessia Tricomi (director of the CSFNSM and of the INFN Section of Catania) and Grazia Umana (member of the CDA of the INAF). The round table was moderated by Adriana Di Stefano, the rector's delegate for Equal Opportunities. Furthermore, inside the Città della Scienza it will be possible to visit the exhibition, set up and curated by the CSFNSM, "Forces of Nature: Me and ... In the wake of Women who have left a mark in Science" dedicated to the female scientists who have won the Nobel or who, despite making great discoveries, have not won it, to those who were the first to overcome gender and race prejudices and who have marked the history of science. Scientists of yesterday, but also of today such as Ada Lovelace, Emmy Noether, Marie Curie, Maria Goeppert Mayer, Chien Wu, Katherine Johnson, Vera Rubin, Vivienne Malone-Mayes, Joycelyn Bell Burners, Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin, Annie Jump Cannon Claudia Alexander and Donna Strickland.
